Individual therapy or counseling involves one-on-one meetings with a trained professional in a confidential, safe, and empathic environment. During these meetings, the client has an opportunity to explore their feelings, thoughts, and actions; better understand themselves and others; deal with challenging past memories and/or stressful current life events, set personal goals; and work toward desired changes in their lives.
People engage in therapy for a range of reasons. These may include dealing with major life transitions, the effects of past trauma, depression or anxiety, challenges in personal relationships or in the workplace, or a simple desire for better self-knowledge and personal growth. The duration of therapy varies depending on the needs, wishes, and goals of the client.
